No proposal to give full Statehood to Delhi: Centre

May 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - New Delhi:

The Centre on Tuesday said it was not considering any proposal to grant full Statehood to the Capital, a key demand of the Aam Aadmi Party government.

“There is no proposal with the government for granting full Statehood to Delhi,” Minister of State for Home Affairs Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary said in reply to a question in the Lok Sabha. The AAP has been demanding grant of full Statehood to Delhi.

In its campaign for the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP too had promised to declare Delhi a full State if it came to power, noting this would help ensure proper coordination between various agencies. — PTI
