Nine men arrested from Rohini hotel for IPL betting

Police suspect the accused’s involvement in other sports; 10 mobile phones, three laptops seized

The Delhi Police, on Sunday, arrested nine persons from an upscale hotel in Rohini for allegedly indulging in illegal gambling during the final match of the Indian Premier League between Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants.

Betting for 10 yrs

The accused have been identified as Kunal Miglani (31), Jitender Kumar (33), Sumit Kalra alias Sunny (32), Nitin Harjani (38), Nikhil Gidwani (23), Amit Kumar Dhingra (32), Sumit Sharma (32), Rajesh Jain (46) and Naveen Kumar(29).

According to the police, they have been betting for the last 10 years. The accused were caught red handed after the police received a tip-off, acting on which, they raided the hotel and found them betting using mobile phones and notebooks. The police have seized 10 mobile phones, three laptops, seven book numbers and two local numbers.

Vacation planned

During investigation, they told the police that that they were planning to take a week-long vacation after the IPL only to return for the Champions Trophy. “We suspect they are involved in betting on other sports including Hockey India League and Indian Super League,” said a senior police official.
