June 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) will hear a petition of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), which cought modification of its ban order on loading and unloading of goods in markets across the Capital during nine business hours everyday, on July 13.

The Green Bench had disallowed loading and unloading of goods in all markets, particularly Lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh, South Extension, Chandni Chowk and other densely populated markets, between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m, on March 16 this year.

An NGT Bench headed by Justice U.D. Salvi fixed the hearing on CAIT’s plea on July 13 after the trader’ body submitted suggestions to decongest traffic in Chandni Chowk area. The Bench ordered that copies of the petition and suggestions put forth by CAIT be furnished to all counsel appearing for the parties in the case before it. The CAIT has mainly suggested that the loading and unloading be allowed only in a single lane to avoid inconvenience to people.

The traders’ body also suggested that the plying of all commercial vehicles within Delhi may be banned during peak hours in morning and evening with heavy goods vehicles being permitted to run in the Capital between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m.

Besides, the CAIT also suggested construction of multi-level parking lots in commercial areas to streamline traffic.
