The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Thursday extended till July 27 its order to maintain status quo on tree felling for the redevelopment project in south Delhi colonies.
Clarification sought
The Bench, headed by judicial member Raghuvendra Rathore, extended the time granted to the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, the Delhi Development Authority, the Forest Department of the Delhi government and others.
The authorities have been asked to submit their replies within one week.
During the hearing, NBCC urged the green panel to consider its plea seeking clarification on the July 2 order that had directed the parties to maintain status quo on felling of trees.
The counsel appearing for NBCC contended that the order was only related to felling of trees and not to civil construction at the site in Nauroji Nagar. Further it was contended that a loss of ₹25 lakh per day was being incurred due to the halted work.
However, the Bench said the matter will be heard only after all stakeholders file their respective responses.
The directions came while the green panel was hearing plea filed by non-government organisations Society for Protection of Culture, Heritage, Environment, Traditions and Promotion of National Awareness (SPCHETNA) and Green Circle, and city resident Utkarsh Bansal, who had sought a stay on the proposed felling of over 16,000 trees for the redevelopment project.
