The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Wednesday adjourned the hearing over the water row between Delhi and Haryana as the matter is now pending with the Supreme Court.

The green panel has deferred the hearing by two weeks.

A Bench headed by NGT acting chairperson Jawad Rahim said, “It is stated on behalf of the State of Haryana and the Delhi Jal Board has already approached the Supreme Court and the matter would come up for consideration on April 16. Let the outcome of the proceedings before the Supreme Court be informed to this tribunal.”

The row between the two States over the amount of water being released by Haryana had begun after the Delhi Jal Board moved an application stating that the water being released by the former was high in ammonia content. The DJB had, further, contended that the level of pollution in the water was high to the extent that it was unfit for drinking purposes.

The green panel had then directed the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to collect samples and analyse the same. The Bench had, further, directed the two States to convene a meeting and “resolve the matter”.
