Passenger services on the Delhi Metro’s Pink Line corridor between Lajpat Nagar and Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus metro stations will start from August 6.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Tuesday said operations on the corridor will be flagged off by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal via remote on August 6.
“The section will be flagged off via remote from Metro Bhawan at 11.30 a.m. Passenger services on this section will commence from 1 p.m. the same day,” said DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal.
The DMRC had on July 26 received a green signal from the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) to start passenger operations on the new corridor.
Boon for shoppers
The 8.1-km-long stretch connecting Lajpat Nagar and South Campus is a part of the Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar line. The first segment of the line between Majlis Park and Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus was thrown open for passenger operations in March this year.
The new corridor is also touted as a boon for shoppers, as four major markets in the Capital — Lajpat Nagar, South Extension, INA and Sarojini Nagar — will get connected.
“This section comprises six stations, including two interchange stations at Lajpat Nagar [Violet Line] and INA [Yellow Line]. After the opening of this section, the Delhi Metro will become 296-km-long, with 214 metro stations.
Remaining section
The total network of phase-III after opening of this section will be 106 km,” said Mr. Dayal. The remaining section on the Pink Line — between Shiv Vihar and Trilokpuri — is likely to open in August itself, while the corridor between Lajpat Nagar and Mayur Vihar-Pocket I is expected to become operational from September.
Officials said the section near Trilokpuri, which is involved in a land dispute, will become operational once the issue is resolved.
