NDMC’s sanitation drive begins

The New Delhi Municipal Council’s fortnight-long sanitation drive as part of the larger ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ campaign of the government was launched at Connaught Place by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Saturday.

Speaking after the inauguration, Mr. Rijiju said India was great, but its greatness depended on cleanliness, an NDMC statement said. The Minister also inaugurated an organic waste converter and smart public toilet at Janpath by remote control and flagged off a cycle rally.

Over the coming fortnight, the NDMC will be carrying out rallies, street plays and cleanliness drives at markets, residential colonies, toilets, bus stops, parks and schools, the statement said.
