NCB Superintendent arrested for graft

A Superintendent with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation along with two others for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs.3 lakh in Lucknow for manipulating investigations into seizure of a consignment of cough syrup.

“NCB official K.P. Tewari was allegedly receiving the amount from one Sant Sharan Das, a lawyer, when we arrested them on Saturday. The accused was receiving illegal gratification to manipulate the probe in favour of businessman Anit Shukla, who has also been arrested,” said a CBI spokesperson.

During searches at the premises of the accused persons, the agency seized about Rs.24 lakh in cash. The accused was subsequently produced before a local special court that sent them to one day judicial custody. The agency plans to seek their police custody for further investigations.
