The 27-year-old woman who allegedly killed her three daughters on Monday night was found to be mentally unstable. She is currently receiving treatment at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS).

The woman identified as Radha Devi had tried to hang herself from a tree using her dupatta after strangulating her three daughters in South Delhi’s Ambedkar Nagar. She was saved by passersby.

On Monday night, the neighbours of the woman had told police that she was depressed because her family, including her husband, would allegedly taunt her for not having a son. The couple has four daughters.

Her husband Raju Singh, who was detained for questioning by the police on Monday night told police that his wife suffered from frequent seizures. “Raju has told us that Radha has been mentally unstable for the past few months and was receiving treatment for her illness,” said the police.

The woman’s fourth daughter (10) who survived the incident also made the same claim. “My father never used to beat us or my father and none of our relatives ever taunted her for not having a son. In fact, my father used to help my mother in her household work,” Barsha said.

The police have registered a case of murder, but they are waiting for a medical opinion from IHBAS to take further action.
