A 30-year-old man was bludgeoned to death by his mother and her live-in partner after he objected to their relationship in east Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar late on January 26, the police said on Sunday. The accused have been arrested, they said.

The deceased has been identified as Ravinder Pathak, a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Basti who worked as a driver in Noida.

Compromising position

Pathak lived with his 50-year-old mother Subhadra Devi and her ‘friend’ Ajeet in a rented flat in New Ashok Nagar, a senior police officer said. When Pathak returned home late on January 26, he saw his mother and Ajeet in a compromising position. This, the officer said, led to an altercation.

The scuffle turned violent after the woman and her live-in partner hit Pathak with a brick on the head, which led to excessive bleeding and eventually his death, the officer added. Fearing police action, Ajeet called an ambulance.

When the ambulance driver reached the spot, he saw Pathak lying in a pool of blood and called the police control room.

Meanwhile, the woman managed to take Pathak’s body to her daughter’s house in Azadpur for cremation. Sensing foul play, the daughter forced her to go back with the body. When the woman returned, she was nabbed by the police.

The body has been for sent for autopsy and the police are awaiting the report.
