The BJP on Monday said it was more “concerned about organisational tasks” in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections than “candidate selection” even as the Delhi party chief Manoj Tiwari announced that in-charges and co-in-charges had been appointed for each of the seven constituencies.

Seeking tickets

The State BJP chief, at a press conference, said that those seeking ticket in the party were sending their applications through District presidents and the party was currently engaged in seeking feedback from different sources on the selection of suitable candidates to be fielded.

“We have already activated our organisation from the top level to the booth level by holding meetings of the P a nch Parmeshwaras [or booth level workers] and in-charges of Shakti Kendras [a unit consisting of four booths], Mandals, Districts and State-level in-charges,” Mr. Tiwari said.

“There is no harm in party leaders seeking ticket to contest elections. It is perfectly fine. Finally, only deserving candidates, some of whom are in reserve in case sitting candidates are shuffled, will be chosen,” Mr. Tiwari, who is the party’s MP from North-East Delhi, said.

Booth-level programmes

The party workers were already in contact with voters on two recent occasions at the booth-level through programmes such as ‘Mera Parivar, BJP Ka Parivar’ and ‘Mera Ghar, BJP Ka Ghar’ which are ongoing, the State BJP chief said.

The Lok Sabha election in-charge for Delhi, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and her deputy Jaibhan Singh Pawaiya were holding meetings with party workers at the District level and taking feedback, Mr. Tiwari said.

Meanwhile, he also announced the names of the Delhi unit’s in-charges and co-in-charges for each of the seven Lok Sabha seats. These in-charges will work under the directions of Ms. Sitharaman and Mr. Pawaiya and coordinate with the network of booth-level network workers.

These include, Anil Kumar Gupta and Harbansh Uppal for Chandni Chowk, Bhola Nath Vij and Pravesh Sharma for North-East, Rajeev Babbar and Ved Vyas Mahajan for East, Harsh Malhotra and Radhey Shayam Sharma for New Delhi, Moolchand Chawala and Master Azad Singh for North-West, Abhay Kumar Verma and Rajesh Gehlot for West, Ashish Sood and Vijay Pandit for South.
