More autonomy to principals

Granting more autonomy to school principals, the Delhi government has decided to do away with “administrative formalities” for routine matters.

According to government officials, the decision has been taken to ensure that basic facilities are provided to students at the earliest.

The announcement was made on Monday during the “State teachers award function” where 75 Delhi government school teachers were awarded.

Terming the technicalities in the administrative processes as a roadblock for progress, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said: “Due to administrative formalities for routine work, the files keep on moving from one department to another and students suffer due to the delay.”

“Whenever I visit schools and find basic facilities like water and toilets in bad shape, the principals claim the file was sent to a certain department..which further says it was sent to Finance Department. We are trying to ensure basic facilities in all schools, but technicalities in administrative processes contribute to the delay,” Mr. Sisodia said.
