Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party government of “punishing Delhiites for voting the Aam Aadmi Party to power”, AAP leaders slammed the Centre alleging that the Narendra Modi government has “the money to donate to Mongolia, but not for the MCD workers of Mongolpuri”.

Speaking at a press conference at the party office about the reasons for the financial crisis in the BJP-run municipal corporations, AAP leader Dilip Pandey said: “Mongolia ko dene ke liye haazaron crore rupees hain lekin Mangolpuri ke MCD karamchariyaon ke liye paise nahi hain ? (They can give thousands of crores for Mongolia but nothing for MCD workers in Mangolpuri)”

Alleging financial irregularities in the MCDs, the Mr. Pandey said that Rs. 18,00 crore loan was given to MCD during Sheila Dikshit’s tenure, but the MCD is still demanding more money from the State Government.

Terming the municipal corporations as one of world's most corrupt bodies, Mr. Pandey alleged that 22,000 employees of MCD are ghost employees. “Investigation must be done, who takes their salaries?” he said

The AAP leader also attacked the BJP over the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan saying that it was started with a lot of publicity, but it has failed due to corruption in the civic bodies.

Defending the AAP government’s role in providing adequate fund in light of the High Court direction to ensure that the safai karmacharis are paid salaries at the earliest, Mr. Pandey said that even before HC’s order the State Government released money for MCD sanitation workers.
