The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government had not fulfilled any of the BJP’s promises in the four years since coming to power.

Marking the fourth anniversary of the NDA government, the AAP attacked the Centre over various issues, from hike in petrol prices to distress faced by farmers.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said the country’s sentiment could be expressed in a line — “ Modi sarkar ke chaar saal, desh ho gaya hai kangaal [four years of Modi government and the country has become destitute]”.

Farmers’ issue

Mr. Singh said Mr. Modi had promised farmers a price of one-and-a-half times the cost of production, but instead farmers were being forced to dump their crops at throwaway prices.

He said unemployment was rampant, as opposed to the promise of creating two crore jobs.

“But it is not that all sections of society are dissatisfied. There is a class of people who have benefited disproportionately. Large corporations and businessmen have been allowed to loot public banks and flee the country,” said Mr. Singh, citing examples of Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi and Vijay Mallya.

Mr. Singh said the Centre had controlled fuel prices till the Karnataka elections, after which the prices of petrol and diesel shot up. Excise duty on fuel had been increased by 211% since 2014, he said.

AAP national spokesperson Dilip Pandey said every scheme announced by the government had been a renamed version of older scheme.
