Missing seven-year-old girl found murdered

She went missing on February 9; family claims police took matter lightly

A seven-year-old girl, reported missing on February 9 from Nihal Vihar, was found murdered in a local park with her limbs tied with a rope, the police said on Sunday.

She had gone to the local market to buy momos with her younger sister around 8 p.m. on February 9, but allegedly disappeared all of a sudden. The younger sister reached home and informed parents about the same, said the police, adding that the sister is mute and deaf.

The body was spotted by the family members who were searching for her the whole night.

The family has, meanwhile, alleged police inaction. “We immediately rushed to Nihal Vihar police station and reported the matter, but the police took it lightly. Had they acted swiftly, my daughter could have been saved,” said the victim’s father.

“We searched for the child the entire night but could not trace her. Early on Sunday morning, we again started the search and around 6.30 a.m., her body was found in a park, a few meters away from her house. It appears that she was strangulated,” said a family member.

The police said that her limbs were tied with a rope and she was hit with some blunt object on the head.

“We had registered a kidnapping case on February 9 and thorough search was conducted to locate the child. A police team rushed to the park after getting the information about the body on Sunday morning. The body has been sent for a post-mortem. The post-mortem report will ascertain if she was sexually assaulted before being killed ,” said DCP (Outer) Seju P. Kuruvilla.

Mr. Kuruvilla also said that they have rounded up several suspects for questioning and that a forensic team also visited the murder spot and collected samples.
