A 10-year-old girl, a student of a government school, was allegedly raped by the school’s sweeper on Tuesday in Shahdara, the police said on Saturday. The accused has been arrested, they said.
A senior police officer privy to the case said that the minor was leaving school in the afternoon of Tuesday, when she was allegedly lured by the 38-year-old sweeper into a room.
“The victim said that the accused made her sit and then pushed her towards a wall and raped her,” the officer said.
Victim ‘threatened’
After committing the crime, the accused allegedly also threatened the girl, asking her not to tell anyone about the incident. The victim then returned home.
Subsequently, the minor informed her relatives, with whom she stays, about the incident. The relatives approached the police on Saturday and also submitted a written complaint.
The police also said that the victim’s parents live in Bihar.
“A case under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Section 506 [criminal intimidation] of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and the accused has been arrested,” the officer said, adding that the accused is a contractual worker, who started working at the school about four months ago.
