The body of a seven-year-old girl was found in a trunk kept near a canal in north-east Delhi’s Bhajanpura on Wednesday morning. A kidnapping case had been lodged by the girl’s parents on June 21.

According to the police, the girl had gone to her aunt’s house in New Usmanpur along with her sisters and went missing soon after she left the house.

‘Hands were tied’

“The family told us that the girls visited their aunt often. When she said she was going back home within an hour of getting there, the sisters didn’t feel the need to drop her back,” said DCP (north-east) Ajit Kumar Singla.

The trunk was found on Wednesday by a passerby, who called the police. “Her hands were tied up. Her body was completely decomposed but the girl was identified after checking missing records and calling the parents,” said Mr. Singla.
