If any unknown person greets you with a “namaste”, do not stop your vehicle and be sure you have been targeted by the ‘Namaste Gang’. In a recent incident, a 51-year-old regional sales manager has been robbed by unidentified men at gunpoint at Bhairon Marg in Tilak Marg on Tuesday.

Victim Gyanender Singh Sirohi was on his way to office in Narayana Industrial Area in west Delhi in his car. He had started from his home in east Delhi. After taking a left turn from Ring Road, he was near Bhairon Marg around 1.45 p.m., when two men on a scooty started riding parallel to his car. The accused allegedly passed a smile and greeted him with hands folded, saying “namaste uncle”. Mr. Sirohi thought that they might be some of his acquaintances and stopped the car and rolled down the window pane on the left.

“One of the two had already come near the window and the moment I rolled down the pane, got inside my car. The other remained outside, but stood near the window,” said Mr. Sirohi.

He said that the man who had got inside the car told him: “I am a criminal and have a pistol if you tried to raise an alarm, you will be shot.”

“He showed me a pistol and asked me to hand over to him all the gold ornaments I was wearing. He robbed me of two gold rings and a gold chain that I was wearing. They fled the spot on their scooty following the incident,” the victim said.

The police said that the modus operandi of the robbers hints at the involvement of the ‘Namaste Gang’ in the crime.

“An FIR under Section 382 [theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint in order to the committing of the theft] of the Indian Penal Code at Tilak Marg police station has been registered. The case is currently under investigation. We are scanning footage from the CCTV camera installed in the area to get a lead,” said a senior police officer.

Last month, a manager was targeted by the ‘Thak Thak Gang’ at the same location.
