The Delhi Transport Corporation will soon deploy home guards on city buses, with around 1,000 personnel reporting to duty with the corporation.

They are part of the around 2,000 guards, who have been relieved by the Delhi Police and are scheduled to be deployed on city buses in the first phase, officials said. Deployment of marshals on buses has been one of the major recommendations of experts for improving women security. The initiative has also been one of the poll promises of the Aam Aadmi Party.

The home guards will report to regional managers of the DTC from where they will be deployed on different checking beats throughout Delhi.

Officials said a group of four-five home guards will also be associated with at least one DTC traffic supervisor. “The checking groups will be deputed at DTC terminals and main bus stops with the aim to check the buses for the safety of passengers,” an official said.
