Surya Prakash was shot multiple times in the head.

A 46-year-old property dealer was shot dead by four men in north-west Delhi’s Ashok Vihar on Tuesday evening, the police said.

The victim, Surya Prakash, a resident of Khera Khurd, was named in several cases of murder and extortion, they said, adding that he is suspected to be associated with Gogi gang, they said.

The police are probing if Surya was gunned down by Tillu gang members or over some other dispute. Tillu is the rival gang of Gogi, they said.

Shot inside car

The incident happened around 5.30 p.m. when Surya who had come to meet a lawyer was about to park his SUV in front of Nandan Apartments in Ashok Vihar Phase 1, the police said.

Four men came and shot him multiple times in the head following which he collapsed inside the SUV. The accused then fled the spot in a car, the police said. “I heard gunshots and rushed to the spot. I saw four people running away from the spot. When I checked the SUV, I found a man lying in a pool of blood. I informed other guards in the society and the police about the incident,” said a society guard.

A PCR reached the spot and rushed the victim to Max hospital where the doctors declared him dead, the police said, adding that crime and forensics teams visited the spot to collect samples.

“Surya was a noted bad character of Shahbad Dairy police station. The CCTV camera footage from the area is being scanned to identify the accused. Surya’s family has been informed. We are working on several leads to get clues about the attackers,” said Aslam Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West).

The police are also probing the gang war angle. “We are questioning the arrested members of Gogi and Tillu gang,” said an officer.

The incident took place in less than two months after the two gangs indulged in a bloodbath in north Delhi’s Burari, leaving four killed and nine injured.
