Man stabbed to death by neighbour; two arrested

Victim had asked the accused to return ₹1,500 that he had lent him

A 30-year-old e-rickshaw driver was allegedly stabbed to death by his neighbour over a monetary dispute in Bharat Nagar here on Sunday night. Two arrests have been made in the case

“The victim, identified as Deepak, had lent ₹1,500 to Rohit, who attacked and killed him,” said a senior police officer.

The police said that a PCR call was made at 11.02 p.m. about a scuffle in Bharat Nagar.

A police team reached the spot and was informed that the victim had been taken to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital for treatment where doctors declared him brought dead.

Deepak’s father Rohtash and his mother also sustained stab injuries and were admitted to the hospital.

“Deepak had asked Rohit to return the sum that he had borrowed from the victim. Rohit stays in the same locality. They had an argument over the issue. Rohit’s brother Ravi also got involved in the fight. They left the spot claiming to return to teach Deepak lesson. They later called some of their friends who stay in Mangolpuri,” said a senior police officer.

A few youth arrived at JJ colony in Bharat Nagar and attacked Deepak, who was inside his house. Deepak’s family members intervened, but Rohit, Ravi and one of their friends, who was identified as Sonu, attacked them as well.

“Deepak sustained a stab injury on his chest. His parents, who were injured too, are out of danger and have been discharged from the hospital,” the officer said.

More arrests to be made

“A case has been registered under IPC Section 302 at Bharat Nagar police station. The knife used in the crime has been recovered. Sonu and Rohit have been arrested. The matter is being investigated. The other accused who arrived at the spot during the fight will also be identified and arrested,” he said.

Family’s allegation

Meanwhile, the family members of the victim have said had police reacted on time, the incident could have been averted.

“When Rohit left the spot and said he would return to teach Deepak a lesson, the police were immediately informed about the incident. However, none reached the spot to offer help, even after efforts were made to approach them,” claimed victim’s younger brother.

‘Location was not clear’

The police said if there are any such claim, they will investigate the matter. “A PCR call was made just after the victim was stabbed. The location, however, was not clear and thus the police reached late,” said the police officer.
