Man shoots at parents over financial dispute

October 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A 26-year-old man allegedly shot at his parents following an argument over a financial dispute in Dwarka in the early hours of Monday.

Brahm Prakash (49) and Savita Devi (45) are reported to be out of danger, while their son Amit is on the run, said the police.

The trigger behind the incident was the parents’ attempt to tow away a car, which Amit received as a wedding gift.

Amit has long-standing disputes with his parents over his share in their business. While three of his brothers stay with their parents in Dwarka, Amit lives with his wife and children in one of the apartments in Platinum Heights complex in Dwarka Sector-18, the spot of the crime.

Mr. Prakash owns three wine shops in Gurgaon and lives in Ramphal Chowk here.“On Sunday night, Mr. Prakash, accompanied by his wife, visited Amit’s house to tow away the car.

He had also brought a crane for the purpose,” said a police officer.

Amit stood on the balcony of his first-floor apartment to confront them when they arrived. Once they reached the complex, a fight broke out between Amit and his parents over an old family dispute.

The argument continued for a few minutes with Mr. Prakash and Ms. Devi on the ground floor and Amit on his balcony. After this, Amit went inside his room and returned with a gun. The incident occurred around 12.30 a.m.

It is alleged that Amit fired several rounds. While two bullets hit his father in the hip and thigh, one hit his mother in the leg. The accused fled the scene by the time residents gathered and called up the police control room. The police rushed the couple to the hospital, from where they were later moved to a private hospital in Gurgaon.
