Man poses as doctor to commit thefts, held

A 42-year-old man, who was allegedly involved in over a dozen criminal cases, was arrested in South-East Delhi. Identified as Sajid, the accused used to commit thefts at educational institutions and hospitals by posing as a student or doctor.

According to the police, the accused was arrested following investigations into a theft at Jamia Hamdard University in which complainant Maubeen Khan reported that one person came to the university in doctor’s attire and stole a purse containing Rs. 240 in cash and some articles from the doctor’s duty room. Meanwhile, the police claimed, a suspicious person wearing a doctor’s coat was found roaming on the campusand was apprehended by a police team.

During questioning, the accused identified himself as Dr. Zamil, who practised at the university medical faculty. But his personal search revealed the property stolen by the accused. On sustained interrogation, it was revealed that he was an Afghani refugee and used to commit thefts in educational institutions and hospitals.
