A 22-year-old woman was allegedly strangulated by her husband in north Delhi’s Bonta Park on Friday evening. The accused, who had taken his wife to the park on the pretext of surprising her, has been booked for murder.
Got married in 2015
According to the police, Komal and her husband Manoj Kumar — residents of Kanjhawala in outer Delhi — had a strained relationship. Komal, in fact, would regularly go to her parents’ house in Raghubeer Nagar after arguments with her husband. “They got married in 2015 after meeting at a bar where she worked. A few months into the marriage, they started fighting and she would leave the house,” said a senior police officer, adding that Komal had recently gone to her parents’ house after a fight.
On Friday, Manoj went to meet her.
He asked her to come with him, saying he had a gift for her.
“Around 8 p.m., Manoj took her to the park, asked her to close her eyes and turn around. He then strangulated her with a wire he had bought from a market near his in-laws’ house,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Jatin Narwal.
Accused called up friend
The police said that after allegedly killing his wife, Manoj informed a friend who lives near his house. The friend, however, called up the police, who laid a trap to apprehend the accused.
“Manoj was taken to the park late in the night, but he couldn’t remember where he had killed her because he was drunk,” said a senior police officer, adding that the Civil Lines police station had also been alerted.
Body found on bench
The body was finally found on a bench, the police added.
Manoj told the police that he suspected his wife of being in a relationship with a man from work.
He said he had planned to flee the city after killing her.
