A 26-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his mother during a quarrel over money in north-west Delhi’s Model Town, the police said on Sunday.
DCP (North-West) Vijayanta Arya said Deepak surrendered before the Model Town police at 1.25 a.m. saying that “during a quarrel, he slit his mother’s throat with a kitchen knife”. After this, a team rushed to the spot and found Asha Devi lying on a bed in a pool of blood. “One bloodstained knife, bedsheet, pillow and jeans and tee-shirt were found at the spot. The body was shifted to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital for post-mortem,” Ms. Arya said. A case of murder was registered. During investigation, Deepak allegedly told the police that he had asked for money from his mother for liquor but she refused after which a quarrel broke out between the two when he killed her.
He said he suspected his mother of having an illicit affair. Deepak’s brother had gone to a market at the time of the incident, the police added.
