Man kills mother, brother over property dispute

He also injured his other brother who is said to be critical

A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his mother and brother with an iron rod in Greater Noida’s Jewar on Monday night, the police said on Tuesday.

The police said Ajit allegedly confessed to the murders saying he killed them due to property dispute. Mr. Ajit also injured his other brother, who is said to be critical, they added.

Mr. Ajit, who works with Axis Bank, was nabbed around 10.15 p.m. from Jewar underpass while trying to flee in his car, the police added.

“We received a tip-off that he was trying to flee the district after committing the crime. A team was formed and we nabbed him from Jewar underpass. We have seized the car and the iron rod used in the crime,” Suniti, Superintendent of Police (Rural), said.

Eldest of three

During interrogation, the accused revealed that being the eldest of the three brothers, he used to take all the monetary decisions in the family.

“One of his brothers got married two months back and was allegedly pressing for division of property and money. Mr. Ajit was against it. His mother Shakuntala Devi was forcing him to divide the property. There were regular fights in the house due to this,” said Ms. Suniti.

Mr. Ajit first attacked his mother and younger brother Pushpendra, who were sleeping in one room, around 6 a.m. on Monday in Rasoolpur village of Jarcha. He hit them on the head with an iron rod multiple times, the police said.

“Then he called Jitender [the other brother] out of his room on the pretext of having a word and attacked him too. He then tried to attack Jitender’s wife, who somehow managed to escape and inform the neighbours. After this, he fled the spot while trio were rushed to a nearby hospital,” said Ms. Suniti.

“Shakuntala was declared brought dead on Monday while Pushpendra was shifted to Safdarjang Hospital in Delhi, where he succumbed to injuries on Tuesday morning. Jitender is said to be critical,” added Ms. Suniti.

He has a criminal history, the police said, adding that they are probing the case.
