A 28-year-old property dealer was killed and his friend was critically injured after their SUV hit a road divider and turned turtle in north-east Delhi’s Nand Nagri on Wednesday night, police said on Thursday.

Car race claims

There were unconfirmed reports that the SUV driver, identified as Vikas, was racing another car when he lost control of the vehicle and hit the divider. The speed of both cars was said to be high at the time of the accident.

However, the police denied the allegations.

DCP (North-East) Atul Kumar Thakur said, “The SUV driver had attempted to save a man, who was crossing the road. The driver lost control and the vehicle rammed a road divider. This is what we have discovered in the preliminary investigation.”

Vikas’ friend Shivam was also in the car when the accident happened.

The police said the two friends were returning to Jagatpuri from Dilshad Garden after having dinner at an eatery. Both of them were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Vikas was declared brought dead. S

hivam’s condition is said to be critical.

Vikas is survived by his parents, wife and two children who live in Jagatpuri.

The police are scanning footage from the CCTV cameras installed near the accident spot to find out what led to the accident.
