A 51-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by his neighbours after he objected to “indecent remarks and gestures” directed at his daughter in west Delhi’s Moti Nagar, the police on Monday.
His son, who was involved in the incident, is said to be critical.
“The accused and victim belong to different communities. To avoid any untoward incident, we have deployed additional force in the area,” said an officer.
The police said they received a PCR call stating a clash between two neighbours at 2 a.m. on Sunday from Moti Nagar.
A team rushed to the spot and took the injured persons to a nearby hospital.
“The victim’s family said they were walking home after visiting a nearby hospital when a neighbour made some indecent remarks and gestures at the girl. She was accompanied by her father and brother. After dropping her home, the men returned and confronted the neighbours for misbehaving with the girl,” the officer added.
The man got into argument with the father-son duo when his (accused) family members also joined him. One of them got a kitchen knife and stabbed the victims in the stomach multiple times, the police said.
Thrashed and stabbed
“They were thrashed and stabbed by four people, including two juveniles,” added the officer.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bhardwaj said they have registered a case under Indian Penal Code Sections 302 (murder), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) against the accused at Moti Nagar police station.
The accused, who fled the spot soon after the incident, were nabbed on Monday from different locations, the police said.
“The accused have been identified as Mohammad Alam and Jahangir Khan. The two juveniles involved in the attack have been sent to an observation home,” added an officer.
