Man killed by speeding SUV

Victim is yet to be identified: police

In a hit-and-run case, a man was killed when an SUV hit him in north-east Delhi’s Khajuri Khas, the police said on Thursday. The victim is yet to be identified.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) Ved Prakash Surya said the body was found by patrolling staff. “A head constable found a body lying near a service road in Khajuri’s A Block at 5.45 a.m. Skid marks were also spotted at the crime spot,” the officer said.

The body was shifted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital mortuary where it has been preserved for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, the police examined the CCTV footage and found that the man had been hit by a white SUV. Soon after the incident, the vehicle sped off, said the police.

“Efforts are on to identify the offending vehicle and its driver,” he added. A case under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) has been registered at Khajuri Khas police station and efforts are on to identify the victim, the DCP said.
