A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly trying to sexually assault his 12-year-old daughter in Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram on Sunday, the police said on Monday.

He was produced in front of the court and has been sent to jail on Monday, they said.

Earlier attempts

The police said that the complainant has alleged that her husband is a habitual drinker and has been sexually assaulting their daughter for the past few months.

“The complainant said that the man in an inebriated state has been sexually assaulting their daughter when she is asleep for quite sometime now. He has also been caught several times. Despite giving him warnings, he went on doing such things repeatedly,” said Sachin Malik, Station House Officer of Indirapuram police station.

On Sunday, the man in an inebriated state allegedly tried to force himself on the daughter and was caught by the victim’s mother.

“After this, the man fled the spot. Following the act, a complaint was filed by the victim’s mother against the man for allegedly raping the girl. A search was launched and he was arrested on Sunday night,” said Mr. Malik.

Case registered

The accused has been booked under Sections 376 (rape), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
