A 20-year-old man has been arrested in Varanasi for allegedly sexually assaulting a six-year-old on Thursday, the police said.
The accused had allegedly touched the victim inappropriately in Sangam Vihar on Monday, they said.
In search of job
The incident happened when the victim had gone to play at her friend’s house. The accused had come to Delhi in search of a job.
A police officer said that the accused was traced to his home town Varanasi with the help of his relatives. A case has been registered under sections of rape, criminal intimidation and POCSO Act.
In her statement to the police, the victim said she had gone to play at her friend’s house after school on Monday when the accused lured her inside an empty house nearby.
He locked the door and started touching her inappropriately, following which she raised an alarm, the police said.
As soon as she started screaming, the accused threatened to kill her and fled the spot.
The child then told her friend’s mother about the incident. Following this, the woman alerted the child’s parents, the police added.
The child was immediately taken to a doctor, who confirmed that the girl had been sexually assaulted.
The victim’s parents are labourers in the area, they added.
