A 30-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly abducting and raping his neighbour’s minor daughter on the terrace of a house in east Delhi’s Madhu Vihar on Monday, the police said. He was arrested following a raid at his possible hideouts.

The police said the man spotted the seven-year-old in the neighbourhood around 7 p.m. on Monday. The accused initially tried to lure her with a ₹20 note. When she refused, he offered her ₹50.

“When the girl, who is a Class III student of a government school, refused to take the money, the man overpowered her and took her to the terrace of a nearby building. He raped her and tried to strangle her. After he fled, the girl went home and informed her parents about her ordeal. They lodged a complaint,” the officer said.

The police said the man attempted to strangle the girl when she screamed for help. However, he fled as soon as he realised that her screams had caught the attention of some locals.
