A 22-year-old woman was killed after her father attacked her multiple times with an iron rod in the small hours of Tuesday in south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar.
The victim’s mother and sister also sustained serious injuries in the attack.
The 55-year-old accused, Nand Kishore, has been arrested, the police said.
Kavita was declared brought dead, while her 24-year-old sister Suman and their 55-year-old mother Vidyavati are undergoing treatment at AIIMS Trauma Centre, the police said.
Stating that Suman and Vidyavati’s condition is critical, the police said Kishore also has three sons.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya said Kishore repairs chairs for a living. So far, the motive behind the attack has been ascertained as stress, he added.
“Vidyavati and her eldest son Rahul got into a fight on Monday night over him hanging out with bad elements. Kishore said he was stressed. In the morning, he first attacked his wife and then his daughters,” the officer said.
Kishore’s son Mohit said his elder brother Rahul, younger brother Ravi, and he were sleeping on the terrace at the time of the incident.
Their parents and sisters were asleep in the one-room accommodation, he added.
“Rahul heard some noise around 5 a.m. and went downstairs to check. He saw our father sitting in a corner, while our mother and sisters were lying unconscious in a pool of blood,” Mohit said.
‘Helped carry victims’
The three women had been hit multiple times on the head, he said.
The three sons and Kishore rushed the victims to the hospital.
“Since ambulances cannot come till our house, we took them in an autorickshaw till the shooting range [in Sangam Vihar]. We asked the ambulance to meet us there. Our father helped us carry them,” Mohit said.
He claimed everything was fine with the family, including their financial condition.
“We were all fine with each other. We had small fights, just like every household, but nothing that would have led to a murder,” he said.
The neighbours claimed that the seven of them “seemed like a happy family”.
However, Mohit said their father seemed comparatively quieter over the last few days and was also worried more than usual for the siblings.
“We asked what was bothering him but he never said anything. He was calling us more often to ask where we were,” said Mohit.
