A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold worth Rs.50 lakh.

The accused was intercepted by Customs officials at the international airport after his arrival from Doha on Wednesday.

“The passenger was empty handed and had displayed a copy of driving license. He was impersonating as airport staff. The description and photo on the license did not match with the passport details,” a release issued by the Customs said.

On suspicion, he was subjected to personal search, which resulted in recovery of two gold bars, weighing one kg each. The value of the gold bars is assessed to be about Rs.50 lakh. —PTI
