Man accused of assaulting foreign teenager on the run

The south Delhi-based businessman accused of sexually assaulted a 16-year-old foreign national, who was in Delhi as part of a student exchange programme, is yet to be arrested seven days after the incident was reported, the police said on Monday.

Three police teams have been conducting raids across Delhi-NCR since the FIR was lodged by the victim, who belongs to France, on October 23 at Neb Sarai police station here. A case has been registered under IPC Section 354 and Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The police said the last-known location of the 55-year-old accused was Dehradun. A police team was sent there on Sunday to conduct a raid at his known hideouts. “The accused was in touch with a Delhi-based lawyer and has applied for anticipatory bail,” said a senior officer.

The victim, who recorded her statement under Section 164 CrPC in front of a Magistrate, has left the country.

“The police surveyed the room where the alleged incident happened. The incident happened on October 18. She was shifted with another family for two days. After reporting the matter to the police and completing other legal formalities, she decided to leave the country,” the police officer added.

The French teenager had befriended the accused businessman’s daughter in Paris in June while the Delhi girl was on an exchange programme. The 16-year-old had arrived at the Saket home of the accused on October 13.

The victim claimed she was alone in her room on October 18 when the accused allegedly came inside and groped her. She immediately left the apartment and told her teacher about the incident. The teacher contacted her parents and the Embassy of France here. The police said they are keeping the Embassy officials in the loop.
