Two persons have been arrested for abducting a 34-year-old man from Badarpur, murdering and dumping him in Aligarh on Tuesday. The deceased allegedly had refused to reach a compromise in a rape case slapped against one of the accused by his minor niece.

Minor apprehended

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal said that the arrested accused have been identified as Parvinder alias Parveen and Vikas alias Vicky. A 17-year-old minor has also been apprehended, Mr. Biswal said, adding, that the accused have alleged involvement in three more cases but it is being verified.

The police said that Ramesh (name changed) was abducted on Tuesday around 6.30 a.m. by a few men while he was driving to his tyre shop in Jaitpur. An auto driver who is an acquaintance of the victim and his brother Suresh (name changed) happened to be near the spot near Tajpur Pahari when the abduction happened. He immediately called Suresh and told him about the incident who further made the PCR call at 7.40 a.m.

Mr. Biswal said that Ramesh’s phone was put on technical surveillance but it was found switched off. His family, relatives and friends were questioned at length to ascertain the cause of abduction and suspects.

The family hinted at the involvement of Parvinder who was allegedly pressurising the victim to reach a compromise in his niece’s rape case.

Niece raped in 2017

In January 2017, Ramesh’s niece was allegedly kidnapped and raped by Parvinder, after which a case was registered at Badarpur police station. He was released on bail in April. “Ramesh was an influential person in the family and he was actively pursuing the case. Parvinder was asking him to reach a compromise,” Mr. Biswal said.

The police raided Parvinder’s house in Faridabad’s Neemka village but he was not found there. He, however, returned in the evening and was picked up for questioning. He was asked where he was but the details given by him did not check out, the police said. During sustained interrogation, he confessed to the crime and also revealed the identity of others involved.

Mr. Biswal said that after abducting Ramesh he was again asked to compromise, but he refused. He was then shot dead in the car.

The accused then took Ramesh’s car to Haryana’s Palwal and set it on fire. They later went to Aligarh and dumped his body in an isolated place on Kishanpur-Peepli road. The police said they have recovered Ramesh’s burnt car, the vehicle he was shot in, and the murder weapon.
