Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal on Monday met Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi, and demanded appointment of a ‘sensible’ woman official at the Kamla Market police station to bolster security at GB Road.

“The DCW chairperson met the Union Home Secretary to discuss issues related to women’s safety in the city,” a DCW official said. “A woman official should be posted so that the sex workers get a sense of security while registering their cases,” the official said.

Ms. Maliwal had recently approached the police along with a disabled sex worker seeking registration of a case against the family members of the woman’s live-in partner as the family had allegedly confined him in the house as they opposed the relationship.

According to the official, she also demanded that the vacant police posts be filled. “The status of the CCTV cameras in the city — how many are working and where are they installed - was also asked for. The secretary has assured to revert back on the query in the next meeting,” the official added.
