A Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal (MACT) here has awarded over ₹6 lakh to the parents of a four-year-old girl who was hit by a water tanker in west Delhi in July 2015.

MACT Presiding Officer Paramjit Singh awarded ₹6.54 lakh to Busra’s parents and asked the New India Assurance Company, the insurer of the offending vehicle, to pay the amount.

“The offending vehicle was insured with New India Assurance Company at the time of the accident and as such shall be liable to pay the awarded amount,” the tribunal said.

The insurance company, however, shall be entitled to recover the compensation amount from the driver and owner of the vehicle, in accordance with the law, the MACT added.

Invalid driving licence

It noted that the driver did not have a valid driving licence at the time of accident. The complaint stated that Busra was hit by a water tanker on July 4, 2015, at Uttam Nagar here while playing near her house. The vehicle, which was allegedly being driven in a rash and negligent manner, hit her. She fell down and succumbed to injuries.
