‘No fees hike in private schools without PTA nod’

Delhi government on Tuesday made it clear that no private school in the national capital will be allowed to hike fees without the approval of the Parent Teacher Association.

Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said his department has already issued guidelines making it mandatory for each private school to get the approval of the Parent Teachers’ Association for implementing any hike in school fees.

“No school can hike its fees without approval of the PTA (Parent Teacher Association),” Mr. Lovely said, replying to a question on the issue.

Asked about whether government will act against those schools which have already increased their fees without the consent of the PTAs, Mr. Lovely indicated action against such schools.

Some private schools have already implemented 15 to 20 per cent hike in fees and asked the parents to pay the increased amount. Private schools, which have been pressing for the hike, are arguing that they are not obliged to take consent of the PTAs to increase the fee.
