LoP attacks CM on proxy govt. comment

May 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - NEW DELHI:

While hailing the Home Ministry’s notification clarifying the respective powers of the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister, Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijendra Gupta, on Friday expressed surprise on Arvind Kejriwal’s allegation that three BJP MLAs were running the government through the L-G.

“It is unimaginable how three MLAs against a massive majority of 67 AAP MLAs can be so powerful so as to influence the Constitutional Authority of the L-G. It is nothing but figment of Mr. Kejriwal’s imagination. I have never tried to influence the high office of the L-G for political ends,” said Mr Gupta.

He also said that the AAP Government has left no stone unturned in suppressing the voice of the Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly. “So much so that the Leader of Opposition has been denied his rightful place to sit in the office complex of the Assembly. The room hitherto occupied by the LoP since the formation of the Delhi Legislative Assembly was taken away from him and allotted to an MLA who became a DDA member,” said a BJP member. The two other BJP MLAs, one of whom is the Chairman of Assurance Committee and the other who is also a DDA member, have also been denied a room.

Meanwhile, Mr Gupta said that the notification issued on Friday by the Ministry of Home Affairs will go a long way in further clarifying the respective powers of L-G and CM.
