A 25-year-old woman, her brother and another relative have been arrested for allegedly killing the woman’s live-in partner in south-east Delhi’s Amar Colony, the police said on Wednesday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Chinmoy Biswal said that the arrested accused have been identified as Anita, her brother Bijay Chhetri (30) and relative Rajender Chhetri, all residents of West Bengal’s Kalimpong. The accused allegedly planned and killed Sunil (28), who hailed from Nepal.

The police had on September 10 received a call around 2.20 p.m. from Lajpat Nagar regarding a man’s body lying in a room. They reached the spot and found that the body had a sharp cut on the neck. The deceased was later identified as Sunil who used to work as a waiter at a restaurant in Saket.

The call was made by Sunita and Sunil’s landlord who was informed about the body by Anita. She told the landlord that she spotted Sunil’s body when she entered the house.

On being questioned, she told the police that she had gone to Greater Noida on the previous night to visit a friend and spotted the body after she returned home,” Mr. Biswal said.

The police said that Anita’s could explain as to why she had gone to the friend’s house the day before. During sustained interrogation, she broke down and confessed to have killed Sunil along with her brother and a relative. On September 13, Bijay was arrested from his village and subsequently Rajender was arrested, the police said.

The accused told the police that Anita was married to one Deepak, but she had left him. She then met Sunil and the two fell in love and started living together. “Sunil and Anita had been, however, constantly fighting with each other for the last few days. Bijay said that at times her sister was not allowed to eat. Anita wanted to leave Sunil but he was not ready,” Mr. Biswal said, adding that the the siblings decided to kill Sunil and roped in Rajender who agreed to join them after finding out that Anita was suffering.

The police said that according to their plan, Bijay and Rajender reached Delhi on September 7 and stayed in a hotel in Paharganj. On September 9, they went to Sunil’s accommodation and stayed the night while Anita left the house. Around 4 a.m., while he was asleep, they slit his throat and left for West Bengal. They threw the knife in the bushes at Ring Road.
