Lineman electrocuted in Noida, another injured

A high-tension line broke and fell on them on Sunday

A 27-year-old man died after he was electrocuted on Sunday while another man sustaied injuries after a high-tension line broke and fell on them at Uncha Amirpur village in Greater Noida’s Jarcha, the police said on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Yogesh Chauhan, who hailed from Johra village in Aligarh. He lived in a rented flat in and worked as a lineman at the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited on a contract basis.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. on Sunday, when Yogesh was standing next to an electricity pole facing a playground.

The high-tension line, carrying 11,000 KV current broke and fell on the him and another man. The both were electrocuted and fell on the ground.

“We got a call from one of the residents of the village who informed us about the incident. The police reached the spot. The two were taken to a hospital in Pilkhuwa where Yogesh was declared brought dead. The other victim was discharged after he was provided first aid,” said Prabhat Dixit, Station House Officer at Jarcha.

Mr. Dixit also said that no complaint has been filed against anyone in the case.

Meanwhile, a group of residents of the village, who witnessed the accident, came together to demand compensation for the deceased’s family. The residents raised slogans against the electricity department and the administration.

₹5 lakh compensation

Soon after the protest started, senior officials from the electricity department reached the spot and assured the villagers of ₹5 lakh compensation from the department to the family of the deceased.

“We have obtained details of the deceased and have assured to start the process for the relief fund and compensation in the case. The electricity department has promised ₹5 lakh. We have also raised an application for the family in the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund,” said a senior administration official.

Yogesh is survived by his father, wife, a three-year-old daughter and a two-year-old son.
