Dignitaries at the Red Fort ramparts were given raincoats

Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave his Independence Day speech amid high security and light showers, which lasted a few minutes.

At around 8 a.m. when it was drizzling, all the dignitaries at the ramparts were given raincoats as Mr. Modi continued with his speech.

Red Fort in all its glory of red and lush green was filled with security personnel, including SPG, NSG and policemen.

Multilayer checking

There was a multilayer checking conducted for those attending the speech.

The security personnel on the duty served without raincoats while some were provided with plastic or white raincoats by their respective units.

A constable said, “There were not enough raincoats but duty is duty and we have to do it despite the rain”.

The Red Fort remained closed for the general public for a couple of hours after the speech got over.

A visitor, Shefali from Bihar, said she had been waiting for an hour but has been told by security that they can only enter after the crowd leaves the venue.
