Life sentence to three for trader’s murder

A local court on Saturday awarded life term to three persons and 10 years’ imprisonment to two others in mines trader Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra murder case.

The murder for ransom had taken place in May 2007.

The Additional Sessions Judge awarded life imprisonment to dreaded gangster Haider and two of his associates – Bhabani Shankar and Sarat Sahoo. The court also sentenced two others Ganapati Ray and Jajati Biswal to 10 years’ of imprisonment. The Keonjhar-based businessman and his driver were kidnapped from Saheed Nagar area in Bhubaneswar on May 27, 2007. The kidnappers had allegedly demanded Rs.2 crore as ransom from Mohapatra’s family. The family members, however, had failed to pay the full amount.
