Licence of private hospital suspended

May 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi Government’s Health Department on Friday initiated action, including suspension of licence and imposition of hefty fine, against a private hospital in Rajouri Garden here for allegedly conducting illegal sex determination tests.

A five-member team of the department conducted surprise check at Kukreja Hospital following complaints that illegal tests were being carried out there. During scrutiny of the hospital’s records in the presence of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, it was found that the hospital was not maintaining its records properly.

Official sources said that the team also found that the mandatory sections of Forms F, required to be filled in before conducting tests of pregnant women, were left blank and even the names of doctors who referred patients for the ultrasound tests were missing from the forms.

The team submitted its report to Health Minister Satyendra Jain, who directed the authorities to initiate action against the hospital under the relevant provisions of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994.

Mr. Jain directed the department’s officials to intensify surprise checks across the Capital.
