The North Delhi Municipal Corporation on Monday proposed that the stay on demolition activities in unauthorised neighbourhoods be extended from 2017 to 2020.
The North Corporation’s Standing Committee proposed that since more time is required for proper implementation of the provisions of the National Capital Territory of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Act, three more years be granted before any demolition takes place.
“The implementation of the scheme regarding the regularisation of unauthorised colonies, village abadli area and their extensions and redevelopment plan for special areas is yet to be notified. It is proposed that all demolition activities be put on hold till December 31, 2020, with the exemption from any punitive actions against unauthorised constructions up to December 31, 2016,” proposed Standing Committee member Jayendra Kumar Dabas.
At present, there are almost 1,600 unauthorised colonies in the Capital, where as many as 40 lakh people live. These colonies are, however, constantly facing the possibility of demolition in absence of registered land and authorised plan. The latest order had implemented the stay on demolition till December 31, 2017.
