Lawyers’ body seeks BCI Chairman in new panel

August 20, 2014 08:17 am | Updated 08:17 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi High Court Bar Association on Tuesday demanded that the Bar Council of India Chairman be appointed a member of the National Judicial Appointments Commission, for which the Parliament has passed the Bill.

HCBA president Rajiv Khosla said the Bar and Bench were integral parts of judicial system. “It is necessary that the Chairman of BCI, which is a statutory body comprising lawyers from across the country, be made part of the proposed Commission,” he said.

Mr. Khosla said the BCI Chairman, being a part of the legal sphere, will have a better understanding from a lawyer's perspective and will be able to appraise the integrity and competence of candidates under consideration.
