A 25-year-old lawyer was killed after his car rammed a road divider and hit a tree on Aruna Asaf Ali Road in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj in the small hours of Sunday.

The accident was reported around 4.30 a.m. when a few people saw the damaged car with its injured driver and called the police. A team reached the spot and rushed the victim to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.

Post-mortem awaited

Prime facie, it appears that Debanjan Sarkar was speeding and lost control over the vehicle after which it hit the road divider and then crashed into a tree, the police said, adding that he was returning home from a party.

He lived at National Institute of Immunology campus where his father is an employee, they said.

A case of rash driving and death by negligence was registered at the Vasant Kunj North police station.

The police said they are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain if the driver was drunk.
