Last date for pre-registration for RFID tags extended: SDMC

The last date for pre-registration and subsequent issuance of radio frequency identity (RFID) tags for commercial vehicles entering Delhi through any of the 13 toll plazas, has been extended by a week to August 23, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation said on Friday.

The deadline has been extended keeping in view difficulties being faced by owners of vehicles in the process, the SDMC said, adding that the move has been approved by the Environmental Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority.

RFID systems have been installed at the 13 border points in order to seamlessly collect toll tax and environment compensation charges. Apart from the automatic transfer of fees, the move will also help bar commercial vehicles over 10 years old from entering the city.

After the deadline, vehicles without RFID tags will face strict penalties.
