Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal on Tuesday inaugurated an updated version of an app meant for women’s safety. The revamped version, called Himmat Plus, was launched by the Delhi Police after taking into account the loopholes that existed in the previous versions.

The Delhi Police said that the new app has been made bilingual and will be available in Hindi and English. The app has been transformed from an ‘emergency safety app’ to a ‘utility app’ that will also provide traffic updates.

The app will also have a special feature for scanning the QR code of the drivers of taxis and e-rickshaws. The Delhi Police said that the app had been simplified and those without a smart phone could also use the QR functionality through SMS facility. The app, which has been launched as a pilot project, can be used by women commuters at the Delhi Airport and five metro stations: Vishwa Vidyalaya, Malviya Nagar, Nehru Place, Saket and Anand Vihar.

Deterrent to crime

Mr. Baijal said the app would act as a deterrent to crime and empower women while travelling. “Women are vulnerable while travelling. This upgraded app will empower them and boost their confidence,” he said.
